Early trader records identify Lake Bemidji as "Lac Traverse" which is French for diagonal. This was a reference to the path of the Mississippi River through the lake. A jewel among a string of seven gems on the Mississippi River in Beltrami County, Lake Bemidji is filled with structure that holds fish year-round.
